The Duncannon Sandsculpting Festival is always one of the highlights of the year for locals and visitors alike. This family friendly weekend has events and activities for everyone, from families looking to keep the kids busy, to friends and couples looking for night time entertainment.
This years Festival theme is THE NORMAN WAY
What's on during the Sandsculpting Festival
Welcome to the 2019 Annual Sand Sculpting Festival. This year's theme is "The Norman Way". It will be a Green Festival with the emphasis on the environment, recycling and in particular preserving our harbour and its many beautiful beaches by encouraging litter awareness. So be conscious of what you bring with you to the Festival and please cut down on single use plastics etc.
This years beneficiaries from the Festival will be 36th Ramsgrange Scouts and Duncannon Village Renewal.
Friday 2nd August 2019
11:30am - 4:15pm Guided Tours of Duncannon Fort
Tours at 11:30am, 12:45pm, 2:30pm and 3:45pm. Book at The Hook Tourism Office.
2pm Opening of the Sand Sculpting Marquee
6pm - 10pm Giant Slides & Bunjee Jumping
Great fun - on the beach.
7pm - 10pm Art & Sculpture Exhibition (FREE)
In the Fort Conan Hotel.
7:30pm Festival Opening Parade (FREE)
The Cartoon Character Pageant plus focal groups and clubs. Parade leaves the National School and makes its way to the beach along the one way road system.
8pm Official Opening Ceremony on the Beach (FREE)
Prizes for the Best Girls' Costume, Best Boys' Costume and Best Group entry, on the beach.
8:30pm Sea Horse Auction
An auction of Barbara Kelly's amazing drift wood sculpture "Sea Horse" on the green.
8:45pm Bar Relay Race (FREE)
Which bar has the fittest bar staff / customers? Teams of 4. Meet on the green, entry is free.
9pm - 10:30pm Party on the Green & Beach (FREE)
With DJ Mixie Conway.
Approx. 10:15pm The Annual Fireworks Display (FREE)
Bring the family along to our annual fireworks display, which can be viewed from the village or on the beach.

Creation of a giant sculpture of a Norman Knight by The Upcycled Movement, made from beach litter. Families are encouraged to bring litter to the Fort to add to the sculpture.

Enchanting stories told by Baya in the Fort at 2pm, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm.

Face painting in the Fort by JoJo.

In the Fort with €5 entry fee. Open to all breeds. 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes for Small, Medium and Large Breeds. Plus "Best in Show" overall winner trophy.

Historian Brian Matthews will give a talk on the Normans in Fort Conan Hotel.
6pm Crab Fishing in the Harbour
Prizes for biggest and smallest crabs caught and the most crabs caught. €2 entry fee.
